Program and Location Information

Welcome to Fiserv Future Techies

The Future Techies program introduces students in grades 5 – 8 to the exciting world of financial technology through an engaging and immersive STEAM-based experience. Over the course of eight to 12 weeks, students are equipped with the tools and technology they need to fully engage with the curriculum while learning from Fiserv technologists about topics like payments, artificial intelligence, app development, machine learning, data visualization and cybersecurity.

FFT process

Students work in teams to tackle real-world problems, such as budgeting, cyberattacks and currency exchange. They’ll have an opportunity to apply their new knowledge to develop their own tech-driven solutions. At the end of the program, each team will present their final project to a panel of Fiserv leaders. The top projects from each region then go head-to-head in a virtual national competition during which teams present their innovations to Fiserv executives alongside members of their communities.

Over the past several years, the Future Techies program has enrolled more than 700 students, offering them hands-on experience in emerging technologies. This has been supported by over 250 dedicated Fiserv volunteers, who served as mentors, educators and judges throughout each of the cohorts. Since that time, Future Techies have developed over 100+ student-led fintech innovations.

Techie Track Summaries

  • Students explore how currency has changed over time, from bartering to digital payments, and how value is determined in transactions. Through a hands-on bartering simulation, they connect these ideas to modern fintech and understand concepts like open-loop vs. closed-loop currencies. This track builds foundational knowledge of how money systems support today’s economy.

  • Students learn how hardware and software work together to power financial technologies like point-of-sale systems. By building and testing their own mock businesses, they gain hands-on experience with transactions, inventory, and reporting. This track highlights how technology enables businesses to process payments and make data-driven decisions.

  • Students create interactive augmented reality experiences and explore virtual reality to understand how immersive technologies are used in fintech. They design AR advertisements and consider how these tools enhance customer engagement, training, and data visualization. This track emphasizes creativity while connecting emerging tech to real-world financial applications.

  • Students investigate how cybersecurity protects financial systems and personal data, focusing on authentication methods and fraud prevention. Through hands-on activities like building a digital lock with Arduino, they apply concepts such as multi-factor authentication. This track develops awareness of digital security and practical skills for safeguarding information.

  • Students collect, analyze, and visualize data through experiments, learning how fintech companies use data to make decisions. By testing and improving rocket designs, they compare accuracy and performance using multiple data sources. This track reinforces the importance of data-driven thinking and ethical data handling.

  • Students explore how machines use data to make decisions and support financial services like fraud detection and customer insights. Through activities such as training models and creating AI-generated content, they examine the power and limitations of AI, including bias and accuracy. This track builds understanding of how AI enhances decision-making in fintech.

  • Students design and build app prototypes that solve real-world financial problems for users and businesses. They focus on user experience, functionality, and collaboration while using tools for both front-end and back-end development. This track connects app design to fintech by showing how digital products improve financial services and decision-making.

  • Students apply what they’ve learned across all tracks to design a real-world fintech solution using the Engineering Design Process. They collaborate to identify problems, prototype solutions, and present their ideas in a competitive setting. This track reinforces teamwork, innovation, and the practical application of technology in solving financial challenges.

FFT National Pitch Competition

In 2025, the program added a new element to provide participants with additional presentation and group work experience – the inaugural National Pitch Competition. Top teams from each region present their solutions to real-world problems.

Prizes include a school grant and iPads for each team member sponsored by Fiserv.

Global expansion

We envision Fiserv Future Techies as a globally scalable model for early fintech education. Our European pilot in Dublin, Ireland, which launched in 2026, will serve as a blueprint for international expansion, building on key lessons from our U.S. program: structured mentorship, regionally relevant content and access to hands-on technology.

To advance impact and global scalability, we will focus on the following priorities:

  • Measure impact through student skill acquisition, innovation output and community involvement
  • Refine delivery with region-specific teacher training, curriculum customization and stakeholder collaboration
  • Adapt continuously by creating feedback loops with schools and mentors to improve impact and retention
  • Ensure long-term success by empowering internal leaders and using data to drive ongoing improvement

Our goal is to build a diverse global group of young fintech innovators, brought together by shared learning, collaboration across cultures and the belief that every student should have access to the tools shaping the future.
