Popmoney Sparks Donations This Holiday Season
Giving money by sending money. That’s the promise of Season of Giving, a charitable giving campaign that brings consumers, financial institutions and the Popmoney® personal payment service together to support Good360, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and its network of more than 40,000 charities throughout the world.
How does it work? Now through Dec. 31, every time someone sends money using Popmoney through one of nearly 200 participating financial institutions, one dollar will be donated to Good360, up to $50,000.*
Banks and credit unions have a strong tradition of charitable giving, both locally and through national organizations. This record of philanthropy makes the Season of Giving campaign with Good360 an especially good fit for financial institutions. Good360 connects businesses that have excess goods with the charities and people who need them, enabling the annual distribution of more than $300 million worth of products. According to the organization, every dollar donated to Good360 enables distribution of an average of $30 worth of products.
With Popmoney, consumers can send money electronically using just the recipient’s name and email address or mobile phone number. Popmoney is commonly used for sending and receiving money for rent, splitting shared bills, and especially this time of year, sending monetary gifts.
The 2013 "How Americans Pay Each Other" national survey sponsored by Fiserv found that 94 percent of Americans like to receive money – in any form – as a gift, making the holiday season an opportune time for financial institutions to remind consumers of convenient digital money movement options. The added charitable component of the Season of Giving campaign is one more compelling reason for consumers to use Popmoney this time of year.
Season of Giving is one of several campaigns and promotions offered by Fiserv to help financial institutions increase usage of Popmoney. For each campaign, Fiserv provides marketing materials, templates and communication resources. Popmoney and other digital payment capabilities help financial institutions generate transaction-based revenue and attract new accounts, while providing the ease, speed and convenience consumers demand. The "How Americans Pay Each Other" survey found that 64 percent of Americans would rather use a person-to-person payment service from their bank than use a check.
